Archivio Storico Ricordi and Dolce & Gabbana strengthen their collaboration

Giuseppe Verdi’s records in the Archive inspire the new Alta Sartoria collection

Archivio Storico Ricordi and Dolce & Gabbana strengthen their on-going collaboration, established in occasion of the Haute Couture collection of 2016, which paid tribute to the heritage and protagonists of the theatre and lyrics.

Last weekend, the luxury fashion house presented their new High Tailoring collection at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, unique suits and dresses freely inspired by a series of costume designs prepared for the operas of Verdi and held at the Archive. More specifically, Dolce & Gabbana, one of the Private Ordinary Founders of Teatro alla Scala, applied their creative talent to give new life to original costumes from Falstaff, Rigoletto, Otello and Don Carlos.

‘Giuseppe Verdi, as an artist, embodies our national identity. His operas’ posters and costume designs held at the Ricordi Archive – from Simon Boccanegra to la Traviata – are a source of inspiration for tailcoats, suits, coats and even t-shirts. We personally love Puccini. But Verdi truly voices the Italian soul: joy and grief, drama and lightness’, the two Milanese stylists declared.
