Da Brera alle Piramidi

The exhibition, promoted by Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense and Cattedra di Egittologia of Università degli Studi, Milan, is focused on the attraction and influence of the Egyptian civilization on the Italian culture of the Renaissance to the XX Century, highlighting the enthusiasm for the Egypt in the history of the different institutions in the Brera Palace and in the city of Milan.

In this occasion the Archivio Storico Ricordi exhibits the iconographic documents for the premiere of Aida at Teatro alla Scala, librettos and pictures related to the Egyptian world, source of inspiration for composers and illustrators of the 19th century.
The exhibition collects rarities from the Brera collections, such as a papyrus, preserved in the Collezioni civiche di Milano, a couple of sphinxes of the XVIII century from a private collection and other objects of Egyptian style, created at the beginning of the XX century.

In addition, could be admired covers and magazine illustrations, which show the diffusion of the passion for the Egypt in the novels and popular literature.

On the occasion of the exhibition, will be organized conferences with important relators among whom Umberto Eco and Jean-Marcel Humbert.
