Madama Butterfly – L’Oriente Ritrovato

The Archivio Storico Ricordi and the La Scala Theater recount Madame Butterfly with an exhibit in Milan

To honor the rendition of Madame Butterfly directed by Riccardo Chailly and staged by Alvis Hermanis that will open the 2016-2017 theater season at La Scala, the Archivio Storico Ricordi and the La Scala Theater present the exhibit, L’Oriente Ritrovato, curated by Vittoria Crespi Morbio. Among the operas generating the most intense interest in the dense calendar of collateral appointments in town, the exhibit at the theater’s museum follows the principal moments of La Scala’s history of Madame Butterfly, documenting some historical stage and costume design, even before 1904. On exhibit will be sketches and models realized for the scenography designed by Carlo Songa and Vittorio Rota, as well as for the subsequent scenography by Caramba in 1925, the artist Tsuguharu Foujita in 1951, and by Keita Asari (director), Ichiro Takada (scenes), and Hanae Mori (costumes) in 1985. Even the splendid postcards designed by Leopoldo Metlicovitz in 1904 will be on display.
